This privacy policy is for The Sunrise Project Australia Ltd (ACN 159 324 697) and its sponsored projects including Bank Workers Climate Forum. References in this privacy policy to The Sunrise Project, we, us, and our are references to this entity or another entity responsible for the processing of your personal information on our behalf.

 

 

This policy applies not just to use of this website, but also to personal information that we process through other online and offline interactions with you in the course of our activities.

 

Why and how we collect personal information

We collect and use personal information from different categories of individuals for several different purposes. This may be:

  • legitimate interests in operating our nonprofit, which includes recruitment (whether as an employee or contractor), engaging with or supporting your organization, inviting you to events, fundraising and reporting to funders, and conducting research and analysis in furtherance of our charitable purposes, or

  • If you fill in a form on our website to contact us: we will store the information you enter or submit (e.g. name, contact details, comment and any other information you choose to submit) for the purposes of responding to your enquiry or matters raised and, if appropriate, keeping you updated on our work.

 

  • If you sign up to receive email newsletters or other campaign materials, or we invite you to events: we will hold you name, country, organization and email address for the purpose of sending you updates and news that we think you will find interesting, sending you information about our work, and occasionally inviting you to events (in which case we may need extra information such as dietary and access requirements). You can unsubscribe from these at any time by using the “unsubscribe” links at the bottom of each email or by contacting our Privacy Officer (see below).

 

Please note that providing personal information to us is voluntary on your part. If you choose not to provide us with certain information, we may not be able to support you (or your organization) or provide you with information.

A list of the non-essential cookies we use on our websites are detailed below:

  • Cookie Message: When a user clicks the ‘Accept all’ button on our cookie banner we use a cookie to record this fact so that the banner doesn’t show next time they visit.

 

  • Google Analytics:We use Google Analytics to gather information about visitors’ use of our websites and for tracking how you use the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage. The information generated by the cookie will be forwarded to Google Inc. servers in the US for statistical analysis purposes only. More info here.

 

  • Google Adwords:Using Google Adwords code we are able to see which pages helped to lead to contact form submissions. This allows us to make better use of our paid search budget.

  • Youtube/Vimeo: We embed videos from YouTube and Vimeo channels using a privacy-enhanced mode. This mode may set cookies on your computer once you click on the YouTube video player, but YouTube will not store personally-identifiable cookie information for playbacks of embedded videos using the privacy-enhanced mode.

 

  • Twitter: The Conversion Tracker cookie enables us to learn how our users have interacted with advertising material. It also enables us to identify users who have used their mobile device to view our material on Twitter and later came to our website on a desktop computer.

 

  • Facebook Pixel: We use this Pixel cookie enables us to measure, optimize and build audiences for advertising campaigns served on Facebook. In particular it enables us to see how our users move between devices when accessing our websites and Facebook.

 

  • LinkedIn Insight Tag: We use this to measure the impact of our advertising campaigns. The data collected enables us to see how our ads lead to actions on our websites such as content downloads, sign-ups and more. The LinkedIn Insight Tag enables the collection of data regarding members’ visits to our websites, including the URL, referrer, IP address, device and browser characteristics, timestamp, and page views. This data is encrypted, then de-identified within seven days, and de-identified data is deleted within 90 days. LinkedIn does not share the personal data with Insight, it only provides aggregated reports about the website audience and ad performance. LinkedIn members can control the use of their personal data for advertising purposes through their LinkedIn account settings.

 

  • Other Third Party Cookies: We have also included a number of features, which allow our users to share some content via Facebook and Twitter. This does not set a cookie by itself, but if one is present it will read it.

Third Party Websites

Our websites and communications often include hyperlinks to third party websites. We have no control over, and are not responsible for, the privacy policies or practices of these parties.

 

Retention of personal information

We retain personal information consistent with the purposes for which the personal information was collected, taking into account applicable data protection laws, retention periods under applicable laws, and our organizational needs.

 

Personal Information Sharing

We may share your personal information with the following third parties in certain circumstances:

 

  • Other entities affiliated with The Sunrise Project, being currently the Windward Fund, a 501(c)(3) non-profit registered in the USA
  • IT service providers acting as data processors (see below) who provide services or cloud-based software to enable us to operate our business
  • Professional advisors such as lawyers, bankers, accountants or auditors in order to provide legal, finance, accounting or auditing services
  • Third parties engaged or involved in the course of the work we do, including consultants, and staff working with us on assignment or secondment from other organizations
  • Third party event hosts, speakers and attendees
  • Law enforcement or regulatory authorities if required by law

 

Data processors

 

Our IT service providers (acting as data processors) generally fall under the following categories:

 

  • Website analytics
  • Website and data hosting
  • IT and system administration
  • Document storage
  • Email, contacts and calendar
  • Collaboration, project management and messaging tools
  • Recruitment and human resources management
  • Online meetings
  • CRM, accounting and billing

 

Our ‘data processors’ only process information on our behalf. They won’t use your personal information for their own purposes and we only permit them to use it in accordance with our instructions, our contract with them and the law. For security reasons we do not name all our service providers in this privacy policy

Storage and security of your personal information

We have appropriate security measures in place to prevent personal information from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way. In addition, we limit access to your personal information to those employees, contractors and other third parties who have a need to know. They will only process your personal information on our instructions and they are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

 

The security of your personal information is important to us and we use the recommended industry standards when storing and dealing with your personal information. We use a secure server using TLS and 256-bit AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption to process all financial transactions.

 

The steps we take to secure the personal information we hold include:

  • website protection measures (such as encryption and anti-virus software)
  • access restrictions to our computer systems (system logins are encrypted, computers have base level disk encryption, anti-virus software and firewall enabled)
  • restricted access to our office premises
  • staff training and implementation of workplace policies and procedures that cover access, storage and security of information.

 

Children’s Privacy

 

Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13. If You are a parent or guardian and You are aware that Your child has provided Us with Personal Data, please contact Us. If We become aware that We have collected Personal Data from anyone under the age of 13 without verification of parental consent, We take steps to remove that information from Our servers.

 

If We need to rely on consent as a legal basis for processing Your information and Your country requires consent from a parent, We may require Your parent’s consent before We collect and use that information.

Many of our data processors operate “cloud-based systems”, which means the information is held in information data centres in different locations. Most of them reserve the right to hold copies of your personal information outside the EAA.

 

In each case we and our data processors employ mechanisms to help safeguard your privacy rights, as required under applicable data protection laws, such as:

 

  • Certain data processors only transfer your personal information to countries that have been deemed to provide an adequate level of protection for personal information by the relevant regulator.

 

  • Providers storing information in the US, may be self-certified to the EU-US Privacy Shield, which requires them to provide similar protection to personal information shared between the Europe and the US.
